Trial Review

Overview

We decided to give the options analysis and trade platform TradeMachine by CMLViz a go after a few months of membership to the Pro Research offering by CML Viz, which we rate very highly. We do not usually sign-up to these types of tools due to several poor experiences, and that most simply cannot beat what is available free via Think or Swim or low price paid option in Amibroker (see our review)

Price

This is an expensive product $199pm or is often advertiser as on special for $129pm.

Effectiveness

First there are a ton of options here and expect there can be a considerable learning curve of many months to fully understand all the options, strategies, and formats. For the trial, we stuck to the main Daily Setup window, and looked for the options plays that had a high number of wins and very few if any losses.  From the few trades we took, we got about a 50/50-win rate lost a few won a few.

Education

There is a ton to cover, probably 20 or so videos that appear to be integral to using the tool. We made our way through about an hour or two of videos, but to be fair probably made a little dent in coveting the full scope of the education.

Support

We didn’t test the support activity, however upon cancelling our subscription support was quick to respond and honored the 30-day free trial, providing an instant refund.

Risk Management

The recommendations include win loss ratio, historic performance and some recommend an options strategy to limit risk, but this is mostly nothing more than a simple spread.

Summary

In summary our view on the tool is that is quite complex, do not expect a point and shoot tool, you will have to put some effort in to learn all the various options and strategies. In our opinion it is not worth the effort, the tool attempt to build options based technical analysis, but we are not convinced this is better than stock based technical analysis tools, when combined with a simple to intermediate knowledge of options. We felt we gave up a lot in complexity of the technical analysis scanning capability that could be built using Think or Swim, Amibroker, Finviz or many other tools.  This approach with its customizable and complex scanning combined with basic knowledge of options strategy would be a much easier, better, and more scalable mechanism to trading.

However, like everything this is personal preference. I expect for the beginner trader, who does not have a deeper working knowledge of technical analysis, and the ability to customize their own strategies, this tool might be a solid option that combines basic technical analysis with options analysis – in reality this 1 + 1 could equal 3, and we think that is the objective for the Trade Machine, maybe we didn’t give it enough time.  If you do end up giving the Trade Machine a try, please do submit your feedback and thoughts ….

In addition, the market is highly dynamic, reviews are strongly affected by the market condition and movement at the time of the trial, the results we got might be completely different at a different point in time. Last, trading is a very endeavor all traders no matter how good have ups and downs, it is part of trading, therefore we cannot rule out that any particular review was conducted during a down patch, or at a time when the market was unsuited to that strategy. In short, much like trading, consider this only one part of a larger puzzle, do your own research, and make your own informed decisions.
